If you are looking for a new metal desk, odds are you will find desks with metal bases and drawers, but with tops made of some kind of laminate. The all-metal desks of old seem to have fallen out of favor. The McDowell Craig company however refurbishes old steel furniture. This may be an option for you, or you may want to try finding a second-hand desk in your area. A good metal desk can last for many many years with little maintenance.

Just because you may live in a small space, this doesn’t stop you from furnishing it with traditional looking furniture pieces. For example, there are antique looking secretary desks designed for small spaces that are as beautiful, practical and functional as their more full sized counterparts. A small secretary desk will still have plenty of inside space as well as the classic drop down writing surface for all your creative and work needs.

When thinking of outfitting your small business or home office with an office desk or two, you may want to consider looking through the local classified ads for office liquidation centers or going out of business centers. A second hand office desk is as practical and functional as a new one, except you’ll pay way less and have more money left over for other office needs.

Working from a home office seems to be everyone’s dream these days. Why struggle with a daily commute that stresses you out before you even step into the office, when you can just take a few steps from the kitchen or bedroom into your own home office. The only issue may be one of space. If you have a small room that won’t fit an office desk, then you may want to look at either getting a corner desk that can fit snugly into a corner, or, you can buy a very comfortable chair and a laptop/notebook table work-station that can fit on your lap. This way you can truly be mobile and not have to worry about small spaces.

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty old school when it comes to furnishing my home office. Since I spend most of my day there, I want it to look and feel comfortable and relaxing, yet functional and organizationally productive. Which is why, when it came time to buy an office desk, I ignored the more trendy and hip office desks and settled on a dark wood corner kidney shaped desk setup with file cabinet and hutch. This way, all my materials are easily accessible and there’s plenty of space for my computer, printer, fax machine, phone and whatever else I need to grow my business.

If you have decided to get a trendy desk, be aware that they are usually fairly expensive.
